It is not impossible to reduce bad cholesterol if a person is careful about what they are eating. The need to take pills will not arise if certain lifestyle modifications are made. A routine exercise and proper diet is basically required to reduce cholesterol. Secondly, consuming fresh fruits, vegetables, whole wheat, nuts and fish will reduce bad cholesterol.

Apart from doing exercise and consuming foods which are salty and are rich in fat one need to maintain a clean lifestyle. Habits such as smoking and excess drinking can seriously have made cholesterol a problem even among youngsters. Unfortunately, many have still not realized and don’t give much attention to what they eat.

Relieve strain on your back

Here are some suggestions that may help you avoid an aching back.

When picking up an object, let your legs to the lifting, not your back. The strong muscles and bones of your legs can withstand strain far better than your back.

If your are subject to back pain, as a reminder to squat rather than bend from the waist, keep a small object – such as a short comb or a half dollar – in your shirt pocket. If you bend over, the object will fall out; if you bend your knees to do the task, the object remains in place.

Carry matched loads, equal weight in both hands. Students do well to carry books in a backpack, rather than under one arm. If you’re having back problems, avoid carrying heavy packages or bulky packages even if they’re light. A large package that needs to be supported far from your body can cause more strain than the smaller, heavier one.

Exercise to build up your abdominal muscles. When stomach muscles are flabby, the weight of the abdominal contents is thrown forward, tending to pull the spine with it. Do sit-ups, with your knees bent, not straight. A straight-let sit-up can put a tremendous strain on your lower back.

If you tend to get backaches, ask your physician to recommend a back-exercise program to maintain strength and flexibility. Swimming is an ideal exercise, but brisk walking or running may be more practical.

It’s a strain to keep both feet on the floor when sitting or standing. Sit with your legs crossed, or with a telephone book under one foot.

Make counter-tops at home or work high enough so you needn’t bend. If you must bend for a long time, a low stool less than one foot may relieve the strain on your back. Try never to stay in one position for a long time.

See that your mattress is flat and free of hollows and lumps.

Be comfortable when you drive. Place a small cushion in the hollow of your back, and pull the seat farther forward.

Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep while children may need more. However, the “quality” of sleep is important than quantity. Every day take an hour to do some quiet relaxing – listening to music, reading or even day-dreaming! Regular relaxation helps reduce the negative effects of stress. Any persistent sleeping ailments need a physician care.
Few methods to get a beauty sleep.
Relax for at least half an hour before getting to bed.
Yoga, meditation, deep breathing, whatever relaxes you-do it before getting to bed.
Develop a sleep routine by going to bed and getting up at the same time daily.
Get some exercise during the day; not before going to bed.
Check your bed. The mattress must support your body comfortably and firmly.
Check your sleep environment. Disturbing sounds or too much light do not make for a restful night’s sleep.

Tips to your Child’s Physical Development and Mental Alertness

As your baby develops, movement is one of the most important ways for him to explore his social and physical environment. Mobility allows your baby to stretch himself mentally and physically by discovering and experiencing new objects, places, sounds and views of the world.

0-5 Months

A baby’s first natural response to rhythm is through motion and body movements play a valuable role in your child’s motor development, such as learning to hold his head erect. As he move, your baby is building up his muscles and embarking on the challenging task of learning to control all the different parts of his body.

An Old MacDonald Bounce

Gently bounce your baby on your lap while singing Old MacDonald. When it is time to make the animal sounds, stop bouncing and use your animal voice in high and low tones. Exposing your baby to high sounds plays an important part in maintaining the alertness and energy required for learning.

6 to 12 Months

From about six months, your child will be able to express himself more freely. Moving to music offers children a way to explore a whole range of emotions that can identify with, but can’t yet put into words. He may even give you cues to show that he can hear the beat in the music you are listening to and change his movements in response to different rhythms.

Sing this familiar song and show your toddler how to turn her arms around like wheels. Move forward and then backward…. Stop at the spotlight and then go…. Drive up the hill…. Zigzag through the town…. This pretend traffic play will help your child develop balance, coordination, direction and space awareness.
